Love Album Template - Free Printable Valentine's Card

7 years ago I blogged about a love card template that I'd designed.  At the time it was only really my crafting friends that were visiting my site and so I gave out a few templates to the couple of people that asked for it and the card sort of got forgotten about.

... 7 years later and I thought I'd do a tutorial for an updated version and maybe make it into more of a mini album.

...Here's the DIY...

Materials needed

  • Print out of card template
  • Print out of letter and insert template
  • Print out of larger insert (optional)
  • Card to print the templates onto
  • Scissors
  • Pencil
  • Craft knife for the centre of the 'O'
  • Cardstock for the card base
  • Cardstock or patterned paper for the letters
  • Cutting board
  • Hole punch or Crop-A-Dile
  • Bone folder and scoring board (optional but does give a neater fold)
  • Double sided sticky tape
  • Ribbon
  • Materials to embellish your card eg. rubber stamps, Versamark ink pad, glitter, clear micro beads - whatever tickles your fancy!

Print out the love card template onto A4 card.

The letters are cut out separately so that you can embellish them however you like.  I've included a small insert so that you can add an extra couple of pages after the 'O'.

There's also a template for a larger insert that will fit between the V and the E here.  If you used thinner paper than me, you could feasibly add a few extra of these larger inserts to make your book a little fuller.

Cut out the template pieces to draw around them onto your chosen cardstock or patterned paper and then decorate your mini book however you like.

I chose a light teal base with red letters.

Embellish your letters however you like.

I stuck double sided sticky tape all over the front of my letters and then sprinkled on clear micro beads onto 3 of the letters and red glitter onto the 'O'.

Attach the letters to the card bases with double sided sticky tape and then punch holes in all of the folds, making sure that all the holes meet up with each other.

I used my Crop-A-Dile set to its widest setting to ensure that all the holes were the same distance from the edge.  (The eagle eyed amongst you may have noticed that I later decided to cut out the hole from the centre of the 'O'.)

To assemble your book, thread 2 ribbons through the holes.

The first ribbon is threaded through the centre fold, holding the small insert in place between the 'O' and the 'V'.

The second ribbon is threaded through the centre of just the large insert and the 'L' and 'E' card base - (this will become much clearer when you start to assemble your book!)

So, once completed, you will have 2 little bows binding the whole book together.  I went on to distress my album slightly using a Versamark ink pad and some rubber stamps.

Now fill your little mini album of 'lurve' with all kinds of loveliness - photos, poems, quotes - whatever you like.

I decided to put one of my favourite quotes in about 'True Love' -

We’re all a little weird. And life is a little weird. And when we find someone whose weirdness is compatible with ours, we join up with them and fall into mutually satisfying weirdness—and call it love — true love.
True Love - Robert Fulghum

Sticking with the 'weirdness theme' I filled the rest of the book with pictures of us being 'weird' together...  But I'm not sure I'm ready to share our weirdness with the world just yet...

Happy Valentine's Day!
